Ateliers d'art de France presents

Craft Practices and Challenges in the Modern Era

organized by: Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation (DBF)

Wednesday 21th may : 10:30 - 11:30

Description

This year’s biennale marks a historic moment as it welcomes three South-East Asian countries—Bangladesh, Malaysia, and the Philippines—to engage in a meaningful dialogue on the unique traditions and contemporary challenges of their craft practices.
The Bangladeshi presentation is deeply rooted in the transformative power of craft within society, particularly its role in empowering marginalized communities, such as the slum dwellers of Dhaka.

While the materials, techniques, and conceptual approaches may differ from those of Malaysia and the Philippines, all three nations share a common thread: craft as a vital medium for cultural transmission, skill development, economic sustainability, and heritage preservation.
This session promises to captivate a diverse audience, including industry professionals, press, and institutional stakeholders, offering fresh perspectives on the enduring significance of craft in the modern world.
