Ateliers d'art de France presents

Japan–France: Lacquer and Hemp for Sustainable Design

organized by: Dimitri HLINKA/Nicolas PINON

Friday 23th may : 16:30 - 17:30

Description

The project by designer Dimitry Hlinka, artisan Nicolas Pinon, and researcher Kenji Toki explores the combination of hemp fiber and natural lacquer through three main research areas in design and craftsmanship: unlocking new potential for these materials, deepening or rediscovering traditional know-how, and examining the possibilities for developing these techniques.

Through this exchange, they enrich their research and explore new methods and techniques to integrate plant-based fiber into the creation of sustainable objects. This approach is part of a collaborative reflection initiated in 2018, which continues and intensifies from 2024 through their joint research with Kenji Toki.

Supported by the Fondation Bettencourt and the Institut Français, this project has benefited from the exceptional setting of the Villa Kujoyama residency, providing the time and ideal conditions for its development.
