I spend my life together with the lacquer tree. Summer to autumn I hand harvest lacquer. In winter, I salvage trees for my works. I use a hatchet to shape the exteriors, each stroke revealing a new pattern—signatures from winters past. While the trees are at the mercy of the elements, I am at the mercy of the trees, striking a balance with nature.
